Season 4 episode commentary with Anna Paquin and Alan Ball. S04x03:

AB: Auditions for this part were really fun.

AB: The amazing..

AP: Kristin didn’t get to pick that person did she?

AB: No.

AP: Naw.

AB: The amazing Kristin Bauer Van Straten. Who..

AP: Has the longest name of all time and is the coolest chick I’ve possibly ever met.

AB: Absolutely, and she has taken this character and turned it into this icon of smartassery.

AP: I’d like to say that the dress she is wearing, that maroon whatever you call it glitter. Pieces of glitter, that color were found all over on every stage.

AB: Really?

AP: In every trailer for the entire rest of the show it like shed everywhere.

AB: Oh nice.

AP: Which is kind of, I don’t know perfect somehow that she I mean Pam  is everywhere.

AB: Pam is everywhere.

AB: If Marnie is Michelle Bachmann I like to think of Pam as Sarah Palin.  That’s what our show is, it’s a total political allegory.
